I have always had great respect for the group of people doing punk/hardcore shows in Philadelphia. Sean, Andy, Greg, Tony P and Robby Redcheeks have always been a great inspiration. I feel like they were my blueprint when I first started doing shows in Brooklyn and New Jersey. But you can't name all of those guys with out talking about Joe Hardcore. Dude loves hardcore, he lives for it. When you get to know Joe, you see how much he cares about doing shows, no matter how many times you have seen him thrown some kid off his stage.

So Joe has fallen on some hard time and his friends Dave Sausage, Robert Wilson and crew put together a an AWSOME benefit show for him this Friday. Words can't describe how bumed I am I can't be there on Friday for the gig and to support Joe. Besides who doesn't like Floorpunch, and moshing for that matter.

From the release a few weeks ago…

Last week, Joe "Hardcore" Mckay was arrested in Philadelphia while driving in his car on the way to work on his friend's house. He was unaware that his passenger was carrying illegal drugs and despite the fact that both he and the passenger admitted that he was unaware of what was in the car at the time, he was charged with a felony possession charge. His lawyer is confident that the case will not stand in court, yet as we all know, good lawyers cost money. Outside of the shows that Joe books, he is a family man with 3 kids and child support to pay. His job is seasonal and with all the recent rain, has been in and out of work over the past 2 months. Needless to say, this is a terrible time for him and his loved ones at home to have to stress over the pending charges and scrape together money for a lawyer.

Joe is someone I consider to be one of my closest and best friends so when I heard about what happened I wanted to help out anyway I could. The thing that made the most sense to me was to do a show. He did everything he could to convince me that we could think of other alternatives but after a lot of arguing I got my way and was left with less than 3 weeks to put something together. With the help of Robby Redcheeks and Dave Sausage, the lineup that we created is:

These bands were all generous enough to agree to play when I asked and I could not be more thankful. Floorpunch and The Wrongside arent exactly active, Cold World flew Dan in from England, Face Reality is making the drive from Detroit, and Agitator is set to open it all up. It proves how much people care about Joe and what he has done for Philly/hardcore kids in general over the last couple of years. Anyone that has been to a show here has seen him/probably ended up in a conversation with him and should know how much hardcore has meant to him and how much he puts into making everything the best it can be. Now when he's in need, it's time to give some back.

I wanna say thank you to Linas Garsys for doing an unreal job on the prints that Robby is going to screen and a sincere thanks to bands for playing and labels that are contributing things to be raffled off at the show-deathwish, backtoback,harvcore, b9, triple b, youngblood and react! There will also be assorted other things for sale at the show, shirts, prints, posters,etc. This will be something that is truly special to be a part of and I couldn't be more happy to see the hardcore community show their support and be able to see an incredible show at the same time. Also, thanks to LIAM and everyone at broad street for letting us have the event at their venue for 100 percent free just because they wanted to help as much as possible/not take any money in return for their kindness

#OCCUPYOFC - YOUNG OFFENDERS, THE RIVAL MOB, AIRFIX KITS & GIVE this weekend!

Sometimes I do shows for bands I like, sometimes I do shows for bands I am friends with and eventually I like them. But the YOUNG OFFENDERS are a different animal all together. I already dug the few 7"s they had out but they were Insta-Friends as soon as we met. Best/Worst dudes and great band too. Punk on the poppier side, modernly melodic. Not unlike The Wipers, or The Observers. They will be out here with their Bay Area counterparts AIRFIX KITS, I can't stop listening to their 7" on Dirtnap records. It's a banger. I urge you to make it out to their shows this weekend in Brooklyn. They have never toured or played out on the east coast before and I doubt they will be back.

  

Don't forget on Saturday YOUNG OFFENDERS and AIRFIX KITS are playing with some the finest Hardcore Bands the east coast has to offer. Somehow THE RIVAL MOB got duped into playing, and they are bringing along GIVE from DC and the most brutal HOAX from Western Mass.

This show is going to be Great. I had heard rumors about THE BOSTON STRANGLER for a while now. Some homeboys from Boston playing in a Hardcore Band. Who knew how monstrous the demo was going to be. Hands down the best DEMO I heard all year. Can't wait to see them play on Saturday. Hell, we even got Waste Management to play a show in Brooklyn. Carms, Danimal and crew will be down from the north as well. . I dunno if anyone has caught HOAX lately at one of their many Brooklyn, NYC shows, but they are killer. Kinda bumbed BEWARE cancelled, but having HOAX playing is definitely making up for it. Opening up the gig will be one of my new favorite up and coming hardcore band from Brooklyn. Brain Slug just recorded for a record. I was lucky enough to hear some tracks, it sounds great. Make sure you get to the show on time so you don't miss them.

I just got back from Chaos In Tejas. It was insane. I actually couldn't handle 4 days of shows, but I tried. I actually passed out during Origin Of M at the Broken Neck on the first night, woke up in time for Tragedy, I'm so punk! So many sick bands, and crucial bro's (bro'ets), good times had by all.

So today is my birthday, I have some shows coming up. Not really for my birthday, but they got billed that way. I'm 33. My body hurts from the weekend in Texas. So why not go to some more shows.

The festivities start, on Thursday with a killer Hardcore Show. 0MEGAS who were killer in Austin, will be making the trip home by way of Brooklyn, BURNING LOVE from Toronto will also be on the way home from Chaos in Tejas, glad to have my old buddy Chris C's band on the gig. DRY SPELL just put out a new record on NO WAY RECORDS, they were one of my favorite new hardcore bands from last year so make sure you check them out. They will have fellow RVA pal's MAD WORLD along with them. And what would Dan Skibra's Brooklyn home coming be with out Mike Kaboom's new band: DBCR on the show.

Then on Saturday, a few bands needed some shows, so i decided to have a double header. RZL DZL and some of their Detroit Hardcore Brothers needed a gig, as well KIELTOLAKI on the same day. I could of combined the shows but i figured i would just do 2. The RZL DZL show starts at 5pm and then the KIELTOLAKI show starts 9pm.

Both shows are only 3 bands. RZL DZL are the ultimate party band, they never play out much so make sure you check them out, FACE REALITY are pretty sick from what I hear. Haroun from RZL DZL also sings in BUILD AND DESTROY. KIELTOLAKI from Finland feature x-members of Selfish, they were great in Texas so if you missed them make sure you see them on Saturday. The new BRAIN KILLER lp is out, and is great. Pick it up if you haven't yet. This will be their last time in Brooklyn for a while. Brooklyn's own Noise assault squad, NOMAD, will be rounding out this gig. I can't say enough good things about this band. They have a a killer 7" on Katorga Works Records, not sure if it is still in print.

Ok so SATURDAY at 538 the almighty DOUBLE NEGATIVE from North Carolina will be up here to play. These guys don't get out much so don't even think about missing this show. The New Lp is next level from their first Ripper. A mature sophomore album, I can't stop listening to it. KIM PHUC from Pittsburgh will be here, hopefully the Penguins pull this series out against the Lightning or they will be in a grumpy ass mood. This band is great, featuring our old friend Cory from Caustic Christ on bass. POLLUTION downright slayed the other night. Loud Noisy angry punk. NOMOS are opening the gig. I'm going to suggest they do more funny covers. Not that "smell the bacon" is funny, it is a Hard Ass song, but i dig the vibe. I will suggest "You gotta fight for your right to party" by the Beasty Boys for Saturday. Its fits. Check out the sick flyer Sam from Crazy Spirit made for the show.
