So our beloved ROBERT COLLINS is in a new band who fucking rip! He and Mark from LOOK BACK AND LAUGH, B. from SCHOLASTI DEATH & Michelle from SCROTUM GRINDER started one sick band. I picked up the Single that Ironlung Records put out a while back but it really didn't do them justice based on what i saw when i was down at Chaos In Tejas. One of the most energetic HC bands i have seen in a long while. Dan O from DEATH FIRST put together a great gig for them on Saturday night. If you are hitting up the LIFETIME show at EUROPA make sure you Rush over to the Acheron to Catch the rest of the NO STATIK show*, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Plus they are all the way from the Bay Area, so they most likely will not be around these parts again anytime soon

I have always had great respect for the group of people doing punk/hardcore shows in Philadelphia. Sean, Andy, Greg, Tony P and Robby Redcheeks have always been a great inspiration. I feel like they were my blueprint when I first started doing shows in Brooklyn and New Jersey. But you can't name all of those guys with out talking about Joe Hardcore. Dude loves hardcore, he lives for it. When you get to know Joe, you see how much he cares about doing shows, no matter how many times you have seen him thrown some kid off his stage.

So Joe has fallen on some hard time and his friends Dave Sausage, Robert Wilson and crew put together a an AWSOME benefit show for him this Friday. Words can't describe how bumed I am I can't be there on Friday for the gig and to support Joe. Besides who doesn't like Floorpunch, and moshing for that matter.

From the release a few weeks ago…

Last week, Joe "Hardcore" Mckay was arrested in Philadelphia while driving in his car on the way to work on his friend's house. He was unaware that his passenger was carrying illegal drugs and despite the fact that both he and the passenger admitted that he was unaware of what was in the car at the time, he was charged with a felony possession charge. His lawyer is confident that the case will not stand in court, yet as we all know, good lawyers cost money. Outside of the shows that Joe books, he is a family man with 3 kids and child support to pay. His job is seasonal and with all the recent rain, has been in and out of work over the past 2 months. Needless to say, this is a terrible time for him and his loved ones at home to have to stress over the pending charges and scrape together money for a lawyer.
Joe is someone I consider to be one of my closest and best friends so when I heard about what happened I wanted to help out anyway I could. The thing that made the most sense to me was to do a show. He did everything he could to convince me that we could think of other alternatives but after a lot of arguing I got my way and was left with less than 3 weeks to put something together. With the help of Robby Redcheeks and Dave Sausage, the lineup that we created is:

These bands were all generous enough to agree to play when I asked and I could not be more thankful. Floorpunch and The Wrongside arent exactly active, Cold World flew Dan in from England, Face Reality is making the drive from Detroit, and Agitator is set to open it all up. It proves how much people care about Joe and what he has done for Philly/hardcore kids in general over the last couple of years. Anyone that has been to a show here has seen him/probably ended up in a conversation with him and should know how much hardcore has meant to him and how much he puts into making everything the best it can be. Now when he's in need, it's time to give some back.

I wanna say thank you to Linas Garsys for doing an unreal job on the prints that Robby is going to screen and a sincere thanks to bands for playing and labels that are contributing things to be raffled off at the show-deathwish, backtoback,harvcore, b9, triple b, youngblood and react! There will also be assorted other things for sale at the show, shirts, prints, posters,etc. This will be something that is truly special to be a part of and I couldn't be more happy to see the hardcore community show their support and be able to see an incredible show at the same time. Also, thanks to LIAM and everyone at broad street for letting us have the event at their venue for 100 percent free just because they wanted to help as much as possible/not take any money in return for their kindness

Sometimes I do shows for bands I like, sometimes I do shows for bands I am friends with and eventually I like them. But the YOUNG OFFENDERS are a different animal all together. I already dug the few 7"s they had out but they were Insta-Friends as soon as we met. Best/Worst dudes and great band too. Punk on the poppier side, modernly melodic. Not unlike The Wipers, or The Observers. They will be out here with their Bay Area counterparts AIRFIX KITS, I can't stop listening to their 7" on Dirtnap records. It's a banger. I urge you to make it out to their shows this weekend in Brooklyn. They have never toured or played out on the east coast before and I doubt they will be back.

Don't forget on Saturday YOUNG OFFENDERS and AIRFIX KITS are playing with some the finest Hardcore Bands the east coast has to offer. Somehow THE RIVAL MOB got duped into playing, and they are bringing along GIVE from DC and the most brutal HOAX from Western Mass.

Hands down the best DEMO I heard all year. Can't wait to see them play on Saturday. Hell, we even got Waste Management to play a show in Brooklyn. Carms, Danimal and crew will be down from the north as well. . I dunno if anyone has caught HOAX lately at one of their many Brooklyn, NYC shows, but they are killer. Kinda bumbed BEWARE cancelled, but having HOAX playing is definitely making up for it. Opening up the gig will be one of my new favorite up and coming hardcore band from Brooklyn. Brain Slug just recorded for a record. I was lucky enough to hear some tracks, it sounds great. Make sure you get to the show on time so you don't miss them.

I just got back from Chaos In Tejas. It was insane. I actually couldn't handle 4 days of shows, but I tried. I actually passed out during Origin Of M at the Broken Neck on the first night, woke up in time for Tragedy, I'm so punk! So many sick bands, and crucial bro's (bro'ets), good times had by all.

So today is my birthday, I have some shows coming up. Not really for my birthday, but they got billed that way. I'm 33. My body hurts from the weekend in Texas. So why not go to some more shows.

The festivities start, on Thursday with a killer Hardcore Show. 0MEGAS who were killer in Austin, will be making the trip home by way of Brooklyn, BURNING LOVE from Toronto will also be on the way home from Chaos in Tejas, glad to have my old buddy Chris C's band on the gig. DRY SPELL just put out a new record on NO WAY RECORDS, they were one of my favorite new hardcore bands from last year so make sure you check them out. They will have fellow RVA pal's MAD WORLD along with them. And what would Dan Skibra's Brooklyn home coming be with out Mike Kaboom's new band: DBCR on the show.

Then on Saturday, a few bands needed some shows, so i decided to have a double header. RZL DZL and some of their Detroit Hardcore Brothers needed a gig, as well KIELTOLAKI on the same day. I could of combined the shows but i figured i would just do 2. The RZL DZL show starts at 5pm and then the KIELTOLAKI show starts 9pm.

Both shows are only 3 bands. RZL DZL are the ultimate party band, they never play out much so make sure you check them out, FACE REALITY are pretty sick from what I hear. Haroun from RZL DZL also sings in BUILD AND DESTROY. KIELTOLAKI from Finland feature x-members of Selfish, they were great in Texas so if you missed them make sure you see them on Saturday. The new BRAIN KILLER lp is out, and is great. Pick it up if you haven't yet. This will be their last time in Brooklyn for a while. Brooklyn's own Noise assault squad, NOMAD, will be rounding out this gig. I can't say enough good things about this band. They have a a killer 7" on Katorga Works Records, not sure if it is still in print.

It never lets up around here lately. This computer is going to be the death of me. These blog posts take like an hour to do because of the hunky piece of shit i am using. Maybe i will have a benefit for a new computer one day. (JK...well maybe)

Before i talk about the shows next Weekend, I just want to take a moment to thank all the people who given NYC/Brooklyn punk a place to live for the past few years. I definetly would not be able to have done all the shows with out all of these people's help. Mike and all the residents of all the 538 Lofts (#201, #210 & Stolen Sleeves), Bill at the Acheron, Andy at Cake Shop & Bruar Falls , Edan at Death By Audio, Robert at Scenic, Zach at Knitting Factory & Cenk at The Charleston. And i appreciate all the hard work that the ABC NO RIO volunteers have given over the years. That is seriously one of the most thankless jobs anyone could ever have. R.I.P. CREWTONZ & CBGB's

Ok so SATURDAY at 538 the almighty DOUBLE NEGATIVE from North Carolina will be up here to play. These guys don't get out much so don't even think about missing this show. The New Lp is next level from their first Ripper. A mature sophomore album, I can't stop listening to it. KIM PHUC from Pittsburgh will be here, hopefully the Penguins pull this series out against the Lightning or they will be in a grumpy ass mood. This band is great, featuring our old friend Cory from Caustic Christ on bass. POLLUTION downright slayed the other night. Loud Noisy angry punk. NOMOS are opening the gig. I'm going to suggest they do more funny covers. Not that "smell the bacon" is funny, it is a Hard Ass song, but i dig the vibe. I will suggest "You gotta fight for your right to party" by the Beasty Boys for Saturday. Its fits. Check out the sick flyer Sam from Crazy Spirit made for the show.

I still can't believe TEAR IT UP is playing on Friday. Not to be all nostalgic, but the former band Dead Nation then the Later Tear It Up played a giant roll in me getting into DIY hardcore punk. Totally different band but most of the same people. Regardless pretty stoked about Friday. It will be great to see all the faces I haven't seen in a while. Oh yeah and Last In Line is getting back together for a few shows.

There are till some tickets left for the show on Friday at Europa in Brooklyn. I believe that there may be some walk up tickets for the show on Saturday in NJ, but no more then 10 of them, if you want to see TEAR IT UP buy a ticket here for the show on Friday, because I doubt anyone else is getting into the show in NJ

So Friday TEAR IT UP will be playing with their original line up (nothing to nothing) Paul, Andy, Doug, Matt & Dave. I haven't personally seen Doug in like 4 years so this should be fun. Dave from Six Feet Under records is re-releasing the Nothing To Nothing LP you can pre order it here or just pick it up at the gig. This was originally released by Jon at Dead Alive Records. Also playing will be the great Western Massholes that are LAST IN LINE. Around the same time TIU was playing LAST IN LINE was ripping up Western Massachusetts. Killer hardcore punk, followed by a bunch of crazy weirdos from MASS. This band played many great shows with TEAR IT UP years back (CBGB's w/ THE CASUALTIES, BRICK VFW w/ VOORHEES & COPS AND ROBBERS, and of course the 97A gig w/ SHARK ATTACK). I figured it would be cool to have them play together one more time. Opening the show is a new band from Darick and Mike from DEEP SLEEP called CELL MATES, Really catch hardcore punk. The 7" they put out on Wallride Records is killer.

Well the cat is out of the bag. TEAR IT UP will be playing 2 Reunion shows at the end of March. About 10 years ago my high school buddy released "NOTHING TO NOTHING" on Deadalive records. I can't believe it was 10 years ago. Crazy. Well it has been out of press for a while so Dave Sausage from Six Feet Under had decided to repress this gem for the masses. In conjunction with this TEAR IT UP decided it would be fun to get back in the saddel and play a few gigs. It has been a while, I have been supper busy with work and traveling the past few weeks. The only show I was able to make it out to lately was the Sheer Terror, Breakdown, Templars & Rival Mob gig a few Sundays back. Oh yeah i also saw a pretty violent Templars show while i was down in Austin TX visting family and friends.

First off, This fir day is the CITIZENS ARREST reunion show w/ ASSHOLE PARADE & MIND ERASER. Pretty damn stoked about this. I heard they played a show in Long Island while i was down in Texas. News to me. Should be a Banger for shore. Please note MIND ERASER is playing first so if you want to see them get to the show on time. They haven't played the area in a while and won't be playing much in the next few months so make it down on time. ASSHOLE PARADE
are flying in from Florida and Denver, CXA was pretty influential on them so they are very honored and amped on playing these shows.

Nick Poot R.I.P.

As alot of you already know by now mine and your dear friend Nick Poot passed away on November 24th. I was lucky enough to make it up to New Hampshire to see him in his last days. I have dealt with a lot of loss in my life, many aunts and uncles, grand parents even my estranged father passed away last year. None of that could of prepared me for the loss of a great friend such as Nick. Even as i sit her typing this it is hard to hold back the tears. I have never lost a buddy before and I hope I never have to again. Nick's life was to short, it wasn't his fault, but he lived his life the way he wanted to. He worked as a cook in a restaurant because he wanted to. He wore a studded jacket, listened to Discharge, played in Bands because he was punk. He did what he wanted in the time he was given. I think we can all take comfort in that and the fact he spent his last days with his amazingly Loving family (Tim, Barbra, Jeff Poot & Kristy) and his friends from all spans of his life from High School, to St Louis, to Boston, to Brooklyn. Live your life the way Nick lived his, do what makes you happy. Life can be too short. I'll miss you always friend. Rest Peacefully.

I didn't mean to bum anyone out i just feel like i need to write something about my dear friend, becasue i will never forget him.

Amelia put together a few Memorial / Benfit shows for Nick Poot coming up in January. I think we can all agree that Nick would of wanted us all to celebrate his life and pay our last respects in this fashion. Thank you Amelia for doing all the Leg work on this.

Hello All, I actually went a week with out doing a show, and I didn't even make it out to any shows this weekend. So tired lately, kinda wish i caught COC yesterday tho.

So on Saturday we got a great show with some killer bands from Chicago. First off RAW NERVE will be back in town. I got to see this band in New Brunswick the last time they were though and they were great. The LP i picked up was great. Young bunch of energetic kids from Chi-town, make sure you check them out. I kinda strong armed RAW NERVE into bring my buddy Jordan and Bryan's band MANIPULATION to town with them. This band is made of people from THIS IS MY FIST, CHRONIC SEIZURE & THE PEDESTRIANS. Don't let their previous bands fool you nothing but cut throat angry hardcore punk here. They just put a 7" out on Fashionable Idiots.

Rounding out the bill is CONCRETE CROSS & PERDITION. CONCRETE CROSS is made up of ex members of Disnil and fronted by everyones favorite Zoom Media employee Artie Philie. Stiff little tone also plays in Sheer Terror now so don't fuck with him! CONCRETE CROSS are also playing with PERDITION on Thursday at Tommy's Tavern, also playing is KOWARD from Boston with dudes from BRAIN KILLER & SCAPEGOAT. First and foremost, thanks to all who made it out to the shows this weekend as well as the opening bands. BURNING LOVE were great, glad i finally got to check them out. I guess everyone was watching Football, because i think everyone forgot about the OBLITERATION / BRAIN KILLER show. They were both great.

So Saturday we have a few shows featuring, STRAIGHTJACKET NATION from Australia. I first stumbled on to this band when Dave from now defunct PISSCHRIST gave me this simple looking 7". Who knew it was going to be so good when got home and put it one. He later told me that his other band STRAIGHTJACKET NATION would be coming to the States that next summer. They played a bunch of great shows their last time around, CHAOS IN TEJAS, My 2 Birthday Shows with CAREER SUICIDE and 2 great gigs with INVASION. They ended up playing NY like 3 times.

What you get with STRAIGHTJACKET NATION, is non stop fast hardcore with screamed vocals not unlike your domestic Clevo hardcore bands (ala H100, GSMF, Inmates or 9 Shocks Terror)

So they will be playing early on Saturday with SOCIAL CIRCKLE from Boston, WILD THING from the Bay Area & CRAZY SPIRIT from Here. SOCIAL CIRCKLE have not played NYC in a hot minute, and i doubt they will be playing any time soon after that. WILD THING are wrapping up their short East Coast / Mid West tour. Come say good bye to BRACE, because he is a nice guy. Buy him a drink. Everyone's favorite CRAZY SPIRIT will be opening the show at 4pm promptly. So no bitching if you show up late.

They were absolutely unstoppable when they were here a few years back. They are playing at EUROPA in Brooklyn with DROPDEAD and the almighty INMATES. The INMATES are one of my favorite hardcore bands. You can't match the anger and riffs. I don't think they will be playing anymore, you never know, but i would defiantly come check them out! Just wanted to post this up for the show tomorrow. Innumerable Forms are playing a gig with Naughty Girls and Mammoth Grinder at the Acheron. Innumerable Forms are made of up of Mammoth Grinder, Alex from Hatred Surge & Justin from Mind Eraser/Rival Mob. What you are going to get here is Metal. Just Metal. I really don't have a reference point to give you hear but i assure you it is brutal. NAUGHTY GIRLS from Montreal are going to be playing this gig as well. If you like the OMEGAS (and you should love them) you will dig on the Naughty Girls. Really dug their demo and skied to see them. This band is made up of members of Omegas & The Slobs. Mammoth Grinder will be playing the show as well, hardcore punk steamroller. And opening the gig will be John from Killin' It's new band, Long Pigs. So try to make it out. Hello all, just wanted to put up a quick show i helped set up. A big group effort all around, since i will most likely not even be able to make it to the gig. Big thanks to Bill and the Acheron again. Raw Nerve (not to be confused with Raw Nerves from Chicago) are playing next Sunday in brooklyn with Failures, Vaccine & Rats In The wall. Raw Nerve are great from what my PDX pals tell me so definitely try to check them out!

Man this is going to be a long weekend. So EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING & PISSED JEANS are playing this weekend, i'm kinda sick of hearing myself talk about it. Tickets are no longer available, but the shows are NOT sold out, their is room for 50 or so more till capacity at the cake shop and about 100 till capacity at Death By Audio. So if you show up on time you should have no problem getting in. Great Opening bands on both shows, Cake Shop has BLOODY GEARS are a great new band from Boston and HOME BLITZ are an awesome power pop band from NJ. And at Death By Audio we have yet another appearance from our favorite Boston band SOCIAL CIRCKLE as well as Population 1280, the shows should be great so definitely try to make it out.In addition to those shows CEREMONY & BLACKLISTED will also be playing on Saturday @ The Cake Shop. (I might as well just sleep at this place on Friday) During the day at 3pm, you can see both of these great Hardcore Bands before you head over to Death By Audio for the ECSR / PJ's gig. SKIN LIKE IRON, from the Bay area, will also be playing this show. My pals from SF & Oakland tell me they are a killer band so I am definitely stoked to check them out. THE MEN who just put out there second LP will be opening up gig. Maybe one more band, we will let you know.

Oh yeah, if you didn't get enough of CEREMONY at the day show you can go check them out later that night at ACHERON in Brooklyn. This is a really cool new DIY space and i'm glad to have some shows go on there. Thanks Bill!
